Spread Your Wings

My name is Chloe Familton. I’m 17 years old, and proudly hold a Private Pilot’s Licence.

Since I was very little, I’ve been fascinated by all things aviation and started learning how to fly at 15.

I feel so blessed to have been able to follow my passion at such a young age, to reach new literal and metaphorical heights. This November, I plan to spread my wings further by becoming the youngest woman to circumnavigate Australia solo in a light aeroplane.

I am also raising money for A Start in Life, a small Australian charity which believes young Australians without life's necessities deserve a brighter future. They support youth to overcome barriers and reach their full potential. Show your support by making a donation, and become part of my team.

“We’re so proud to support you Chloe in this exciting adventure. We think your goals and desire to support women in aviation are awesome”

The Journey

On 13 November 2023 I will take off from my local airport, Cessnock in NSW, and head north to begin my journey of circumnavigating Australia solo in a Cessna 172.

My planned route is a counter clockwise circumnavigation of Australia that will cover 7600NM (14000km), and 40 Aerodromes.

My Mission

As a young woman, I am very much part of a minority group, with females making up only 5% of Australian pilots. Even though bias is still present in parts of aviation today, some of which I have already encountered myself, I am fortunate enough to be supported by a wonderful team, including some incredibly talented women who inspire me in every way possible.

By completing this flight, I wish to pay forward the support I have received and inspire young people, especially girls, to spread their wings and take flight to new possibilities. I would like to challenge myself as an aviator and also want to prove that, in the 21st century, women are completely capable of achieving anything that they set their minds towards.

Contact Me

One thing I have found in the few years I have been flying is that there are some amazing people in the aviation community and i was fortunately to meet many of you along the way.

I’m back home now, but I’d still love to hear from.  If you are a new student just looking to get into aviation or would just like to ask a question about the trip I’d love to hear from you.

I’ll do my best to reply to everyone as soon as I can.
